Every Introduction to Beekeeping course concludes with a practical session at the apiary. In previous years, that session has been restricted to a hive inspection and the others topics discussed would have been covered in more detail in the classroom.

We already know there were things we could’ve done better (chairs would have helped!) but we’d welcome your honest feedback as it will help shape how we deliver the event in future.

Thinking about the session on swarm control (artificial swarm and the nucleus method), did you find the presentation clear or are you still none the wiser? In a non-COVID situation, would you have preferred to have covered this in the classroom?

Thinking about the hive inspection, what was your overall impression?

Did you feel you had an adequate opportunity to experience the bees? Could you see properly?

Were the features of the colony properly explained? Were you helped to feel comfortable with the bees?

Finally, in a non-COVID situation, would you have preferred the course online with a practical session or in a classroom with a practical session?
