Lessons Learnt from 2024

Apart from building a useful resource, the hope is that these will form useful discussions points during the online ‘Discussions Forums’ which will start in the spring.

Further contributions welcome:

  • Do not leave all the cleaning of frames, boxes and especially poly hives until the last minutes. Five days later I’m still at it! (Richard S.)
  • (Or even worse than Richard’s above.) NEVER kid yourself that those tatty frames from rationalising ‘double brood’ boxes might be useful in the spring. They won’t and they will become a horrible mess! (Simon F.)
  • I will get all the new hive labels aligned with new notes done in January! (Louise E.)
  • Be more decisive! I really should have euthanised my bad tempered colony, which was probably queenless, back in autumn ’23 rather than wasting time and effort getting them to survive the winter and then having to deal with it at a busy time in the spring! (Simon F.)
  • Other lessons and resolutions. Please leave a comment . . .
