Apiary Rules and Directions

Meridian runs two apiaries to promote education, training and development for members and the wider beekeeping community. Having suitable hives available for members to attain the BBKA Basic Assessment is a clear and necessary objective.

Apiary Rules

  1. The appointed apiary manager will work with volunteers to achieve the above objectives.
  2. The apiary manager will work to ensure good beekeeping practices are maintained and that activity in the apiary complies with the conditions of use of these sites and the relevant insurance policies.
  3. If members wish to donate or loan hives or other equipment, to help achieve these objectives, are welcome but must be agreed, in advance, with the apiary manager.
  4. Members participating in apiary meetings and inspections must ensure good bio-secure practices are observed (eg. Clean clothing and footwear and thoroughly cleaned tools and equipment.)
  5. Unless there is a clear emergency, inspections are NOT permitted without the Apiary Manager (or a designated member) present .

Leave West End on Moorgreen Road, past the Southampton Arms Pub, 300m on the right is a bus stop and entrance to allotments adjacent. Enter allotments gate and pass through next gate, follow track to the end. The apiary is in the field at end of track.

Park Place, Wickham

A short distance north west from Wickham on the A334 take the small entrance to “Park Place Pastoral Centre”. After 30m, take the left fork and continue on a single track road until you reach a grand building on your right – in front of which cars should be parked.
With your back to the building there is a large grassed area – directly opposite you will see some hives close to the trees.
