Members from Meridian, Meon Valley & Winchester BKA’s all descended on the Warnford Village Hall today at 10:00 for the annual Bee Health Day.

Many brought along 30 bees for sampling and checking under the microscope for Nosema and other diseases that might be affecting their colony. Thankfully, not one sample showed signs of it.

30 Honeybees crushed up with some water to produce a juice, or soup, ready for the microscope slides.

Below are the microscope slides used to trap the fluid of the 30 bees so they are ready to be viewed under the microscope.

New Beekeepers from Winchester also came along and tried their hand at crushing up a few bees. Not something they imagined doing when they started their beekeeping journey.

Samples were then tested under the microscope at a strength of 400 times.

The day was truly successful and made even better by the homemade cakes that Jean Frost (HBA Education Secretary) provided for all.

Some of members as you can see are just bee crazy.
thank you. Glad it was successful and worth the effort. Relieved none of the colonies had nosema. Sorry I couldn’t be with you.
